About the Cemetery Committee...

Cllr Andrew Bailey, Chair of the Cemetery Committee, and Cllr Jan Jones, Vice-Chair
Andrew and Jan
The Cemetery Committee meets at least three times a year to oversee the running of the grounds and buildings at the cemetery, which Gresford Community Council took on in 2004. We review the issues raised by the Assistant Clerk, who is responsible for the day-to-day matters.
Issues raised by the Assistant Clerk are reviewed and actions agreed, or recommendations made to the Full Council where necessary. Charges to users are reviewed annually, and every five years there is a check of the stability of memorials; any unsafe ones are respectfully laid down and relatives are contacted, where possible. This important check was last carried out in 2021.
We agree expenditure within our allocated budget and this is reviewed prior to the December Council meeting where finances are for the coming year are set. A current, very interesting, project we are engaged in involves working with the North Wales Wildlife Trust to include areas in the cemetery grounds for the specific development of wildflowers and fauna.
In the medium-to-long term Gresford Cemetery will need to expand into an allocated area, currently cared for by a local farmer; this situation is reviewed regularly. You can find out more by visiting our Cemetery pages.

Next meeting coming up - Tuesday 11th July: documents will be posted here before the meeting
