Information on arrangements
The Community Council is the first layer of local government; it is a legal entity and its activities and powers are set out in legislation. The Community Council can only act when it has a legal ‘power’ to do so – so there are certain things we can do, and certain things we have no power over at all. A good example relates to highways – we have no powers in relation to roads or highways so, in summer 2021 when we had so much trouble with the traffic lights in the village, there was nothing we could do apart from to nag (and nag, and nag). The things that we are able to do tend to be set out and explained in our policies and you will find our main documents of this nature on this page.
